When I arrived at the third hospital, I ended up in a room with several doctors and nurses all around me. Peggy, Julia, and I were all concerned. And that concern grew when the surgeon introduced himself as the best surgeon with the best team in Martin County, if not the country.
He explained that I had a dissected right aorta and if I didn’t have immediate surgery¸ I would only have a 20% chance of surviving the week. And I would have an 80% chance that I would die.
That’s all that Peggy and Julia needed to hear. Julia came running to me, put her head on my chest, and cried, “Please don’t die, Daddy. I love you and need you”. I was fighting back tears, trying to stay strong for Julia. With many emotions going on in my mind, I did find a few seconds to ask Jesus, “Why me? Please help me.”

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” I saw Peggy fighting back tears and trying to stay strong. I sensed that she would be strong because of her love, not only for me, but for Jesus as well.
Seeing Julia crying over me, and Peggy in tears as well, is the worst feeling that I ever felt as a husband and father to deal with. I felt helpless as I couldn’t reach around to hug and kiss my loved ones to comfort them.

Stevie's Heart
Stevie Suglia is an accomplished author, born in Yonkers, NY, and raised in the Bronx and North Massapequa. He now calls Stuart, Florida, home.
A devoted family man and follower of Christ, Stevie cherishes his wife, Peggy, and daughter, Julia—but loves Jesus above all. Authorship wasn't part of his original blueprint; that was God's plan. When his best friend Tom urged him to journal his life-changing experiences, Stevie transformed those notes into a powerful true-story book.
For over nine years, Stevie has been a dedicated member of Revive Church, serving on the Tech Team where his passion for media shines. That love ignited in the late 1970s at a small Catholic TV station on Long Island, helping with lighting, video switching, and sound—all in service to the Lord. Today, he continues that calling at Revive Church.
Though he dabbled in poetry (with one piece even shared during a Sunday service), writing never fully took root until a hospital stay deepened his faith. There, Stevie prayed for new ways to spread Jesus' Word beyond his DJ gigs, igniting a burning passion for the page.
